EPDP leader calls for peace

[TamilNet, Thursday, 31 December 1998, 22:08 GMT]
This is an opportune time for declaring a cease fire and starting negotiations with third party mediations, said Douglas Devananda, Member of Parliament and Leader of Ealam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) in a message issued to mark the new year.

Following recent discussions on peace talks stimulated by the LTTE leaders call for a negotiated settlement, the Tamil parliamentarian has sent a clear call for peace to the Sri Lankan Government.

Recognising the Northeast of the island as the homeland of the Tamil speaking people is the only basis for finding a permanent solution, Mr Devananda went on to say.
