Unidentified persons hurled a hand grenade Monday around 9:15 p.m on the house of a Muslim trader in Oaddamaavadi area in Vaazhaichcheanai police division in Batticaloa district. Though the occupants were not hurt, the front portion of the house was slightly damaged in the attack, sources in Vaazhaichcheanai said.
The Muslim trader is Mohamed Aliyar Mohamed Rafeek, 35, a resident of M. P. C. S. Road, Ward No. 4, Meeraavoadai, Oadamaavadi in Vaazhaichcheanai.
Rafeek’s wife works in Maanchoalai Rural Hospital and a problem related to the administration of the hospital is the reason of the grenade attack, residents in Meeraavoadai said.
This is the second grenade attack on the trader’s house.
No one has been arrested, Vaazhaichcheanai police who are investigating into the attack, said.
