Unidentified armed men opened fire on a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) sentry post in Vallipuram area in Point Pedro, Vadamaraadchi Monday midnight, seriously injuring two SLA soldiers, sources in Point Pedro said. The injured soldiers were rushed to Palaali Military hospital and an intensive cordon and search was launched in Vallipuram and the areas close to it by the SLA.

The said SLA sentry post is located on Vallipuram beach.

The soldiers may have been attacked by persons trying to penetrate into Vadamaraadchchi by the sea side, residents of the area said.

The historically famous Vallipuram Aazhvaar Temple is located in Vallipuram, a coastal village on the boundary between Thenmaraadchi and Vadamaraadchi.
