Thenmaraadchi farmer seeks refuge with HRC

A 27-year-old farmer from Thenmaraadchi sought refuge Friday with Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office due to death threats by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and SLA-backed paramilitary men. HRC officials took steps to place the farmer in the protective custody of Jaffna Prison.

HRC officials took steps to place the farmer in the protective custody of Jaffna Prison. The farmer who sought refugee is a resident of Allaarai South, Meesaalai, Chaavakachcheari. Civilians from Thenmaraadchi seeking refuge with HRC Jaffna has been on the decline in recent times compared to earlier figures. Wednesday, a 56-year-old family man from Thunnaalai in Vadamaraadchi sought protection with HRC Jaffna due to death threats to his life.
