2 farmers missing in Yala

Two Sinhalese farmers went inside Yala sanctuary for cultivation have been reported missing since October 1st, according to a complaint lodged with the Kotiayagala Police Sunday by the third farmer who accompanied them.
Due to reported infiltration by Liberation Tigers, Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has prohibited people from entering designated areas in the Yala sanctuary, and has also marked certain areas where cultivation is allowed.
However, some farmers routinely violate this, and enter prohibited areas in the sanctuary, police sources said.
The SLA and police have deployed special teams to locate the missing farmers in the jungle area.
The missing farmers are said to be residents of Maha Oya and Etimale, Police sources said.
