Grenade attack injures policeman in Batticaloa

Unidentified persons hurled a hand grenade Wednesday around 8:00 p.m on a police sentry post near Kalladi Clock Tower, seriously injuring a policeman. A Tamil civilian was seriously injured when the policemen in the sentry post opened indiscriminate fire following the attack.
The policeman injured was identified as Sanath, 42, and the civilian as Thurainathan Suresh, 23.
Both were admitted to Batticaloa Teaching Hospital.
Special Task Force commandos, fieldbike units and the police jointly conducted a search operation in Kalladi following the grenade attack.
Kalladi is located 2 km south of Batticaloa town.
