Unidentified armed men abducted the President of Karadippooval Rural Development Society (RDS) Sunday around 3:00 p.m after he had passed Vavu’natheevu Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp check post while returning home from Batticaloa town.
The abducted RDS president is Manickam Puperan, 45, a resident of Karadippooval in Karadiyanaa’ru.
Meanwhile, local residents said that people passing through Vavu’natheevu SLA check post manned by intelligence personnel are harassed in the name of interrogation.
People of the area are hesitant to go Batticaloa even if they have to attend to urgent and important matters, they said.
