11 Tamil youths arrested in Gampaha

Sri Lanka police arrested eleven Tamil youths traveling in Colombo bound Vavuniyaa passenger Yarldevi train at Gampaha railway station Wednesday evening. The police searched all compartments of the train and subjected every commuter to severe questioning, sources said.

Police said the youths were taken into custody as they failed to justify their traveling to Colombo. Tamil passengers were requested by the law enforcement authorities to provide reasons for the visit to Colombo.

Meanwhile, one Tamil youth who had been working in Gampaha was taken into custody by the police in a cordon and search operation conducted Wednesday midnight.
