Northbound train passengers face severe checks at Madawachchi

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 24 December 2008, 05:43 GMT]
Passengers traveling from Colombo to Vavuniyaa by Yaazhtheavi (Yaldevi) train are subjected to severe checks at Madawachchi railway station for more than an hour.

Due to this the Yaazhtheavi that leaves Colombo at 5:45 a.m. reaches Vavuniyaa by 2:00 pm instead around 12.15 p.m. Yaazhtheavi in return trip leaves Vavuniyaa around 2:30 p.m. and reaches Fort by 10:00 p.m. in night causing inconvenience to Colombo bound commuters, civil sources complain.

Representations have been made to railway and security authorities to make arrangement to check passengers at Vavuniyaa railway station instead at Madawachchi thus ensuring the train commences its return trip to Colombo around 1:30 p.m.
