Unidentified persons abducted Sunday around 1:00 p.m a Muslim trader returning home on his motor cycle in Kaaththaankudi police division in Batticaloa district, according to a complaint lodged with Kaaththaankudi police. The abducted person is also a social worker and Kaaththaankudi Tranders’ Union has called for a shut down demanding the release of the Muslim trader.

The trader abducted is A. L. M. Naser, 38, a resident of Kurichchi One in Kaanththaankudi.

All the shops of Muslims in Kaaththaankudi remain closed in protest of the abduction of Naser.

A large number of policemen and Special Task Force (STF) commandos are deployed in Kaaththaankudi.

Transport service, however, functions unaffected.

Kaaththaankudi is located 15 km south of Batticalaoa town.
