Abducted Muslim trader released in Batticaloa

The Muslim trader alleged to have been abducted by unknown Muslim armed men Sunday noon in Kaaththaankudi police division in Batticaloa district was released Monday night with his eyes bound and subjected to severe assault, Kaaththaankudi police said.

The trader released is A. L. M. Naser, 38, a resident of Kurichchi One in Kaanththaankudi.

There is no involvement of Tamil paramilitary group in the abduction of Naser, according to his statement to Kaaththaankudi police.

A total shut down was observed in Kaaththaankudi area Monday demanding the release of Naser.
