Pandemonium in Sri Lankan Parliament

The Sri Lankan Parliament was abruptly adjourned today following pandemonium that erupted in the house when the main opposition party, the UNP, held up large pieces of paper marked X and shouted slogans against the ruling party for rigging elections in the North-western province (NWP) last month.

The leader of the UNP, Mr.Ranil Wickremesinghe, made a strong statement condemning the PA for the NWP polls violence and rigging and walked out of the house.

Meanwhile, the government ranks attempted to shout down the opposition creating a general uproar. The speaker, unable to restore order in the house, adjourned it for ten minutes.

The UNP boycotted the rest of the proceedings in the house today.
