Dr.Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu, executive director of the Colombo-based think-tank Center for Policy Alternatives (CPA), was detained and questioned Wednesday early morning at the Katunayake International Airport (KIA) by Criminal Investigations Department officials upon his return from abroad. He was detained for several minutes and later allowed to go, media sources said.

Airport officials told media that the CID had wanted to interrogate Dr. Saravanamuttu since February this year.

He was asked about the former convener of the Free Media Movement, Mr. Sunanda Despriya, according to CPA sources.

Dr Saravanamuthu lodged a complaint with the police last month over a death threat he received.
