SL Budget to be tabled in parliament on November 7

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 23 September 2009, 03:47 GMT]
The 2010 budget will be presented to Parliament on November 7, Non Cabinet Minister of Finance Ranjit Siyambalapitiya said. The third reading vote on the budget will take place on December 4, he told parliament Tuesday. There were speculations earlier that a budget will not be presented this year.

However, he did not confirm or deny media reports that there was a move to bring a vote on account instead of a full budget ahead of the general elections next year.

There are various proposals but the government has already allocated dates for the budget debate.

Accordingly the Appropriation Bill will be presented in October and the second hearing will be held in November 7, the minister said responding to a query by the UNP Colombo district MP Ravi Karunanayake about media reports on a government plans for a vote on account.
