Thousands displaced in Mannar operation

Thousands of civilians were displaced from Paappamoddai area 9 km. north of Mannar town along the Mannar - Pooneryn road as the troops of the SLA conducted a limited operation on Sunday, said sources.

Paappamoddai is a farm village 9 km. north of Mannar town where a large number of farm families and the displaced people in the Vanni lived.

When the troops began their advancing Sunday night around 11 p.m. the villagers picked up their emergency needs and left for safer places further north, sources said.

Sources in Mannar said that the SLA has moved into Paappamoddai.

This is the second limited operation carried out by the SLA within the month in the Vanni region.

Rana Gosa operation was launched north of Poovarsankulam capturing 12 villages, without any resistance from the Liberation Tigers.
