Army molests schoolgirl
A 16 year old school girl was molested on Friday, March 19, by two Sri Lankan Army soldiers who were guarding a sentry at Chavakachcheri in the Jaffna Peninsula.
The girl's parents have complained to the SLA officer, but no action has been taken so far, according to sources in Jaffna.
The parents said that the Army had prevented them from taking their daughter to the Jaffna Hospital to seek medical attention.
Woman killed in airforce strike
A 40 year old woman was killed and three others including a 9 year old girl were wounded in air strike by the Sri Lankan Air Force in Mullaithivu district this evening, said sources.
They that said two jets were involved in the attack.
Further details were not available.
Search operation in Amparai
Sri Lankan Police conducted a search operation in Akkaraippattu in the Ampara district this morning from 11 a.m.
Sixty people were taken to the police station for further investigation.
Sources said that 15 are being detained at the police station and the others were relesed in the evening.
All those who are detained are form other districts, the sources added.
Meanwhile two fishing boats were damaged when Special Task Force (STF) commandos opened fire at them Friday night between 9 and 10 p.m. in the Maamunai Aaru (river).
The fishermen escaped by jumping into the sea and swimming ashore.
Sources in Jaffna said that according to fishermen from northern coastal towns, the SLA has been randomly firing in to seas off Pooneryn for the last few days.
Fishermen from the Pashayoor, Colombuthurai and Navanthurai areas have been afected, they said.
