Civilians wounded in clash

Two women, Kandasamy Thangaratnam, 65, and Thavakumar Baghavathy,29, were wounded in cross fire when fighting erupted between the Liberation Tigers and the Sri Lankan Army manning the Karambaikurichchi sentry point at Varani in Jaffna last night around 10.30.
The casualties on either side is not known said sources.
The residences of Thangaratnam and Baghavathy are 200 yards from the SLA sentry point they added. Both women have been admitted to the Jaffna hospital.
The fighting had lasted for more than 15 minutes in the area.
Baghavathy was breast feeding her child when she was hit by a bullet said sources in the area.
