Train services between Colombo and Vavuniyaa towards the north and between Colombo and Batticaloa towards the east had been disrupted Tuesday morning for several hours. The Inter-City train that runs between Colombo Fort to Vavuniya was derailed Tuesday morning around 7:45 a.m. near the Girambe sub-railway station that is located along Polgahawela and Potuhara, railway department media spokesman said.

The engine of the train had jumped tracks, but no one had been injured by the incident, sources said.

Meanwhile, the passenger train that runs between Colombo and Batticaloa had been delayed as its vacuum pipe was damaged after hitting a wild elephant on the tracks between Hingurakoda and Minneriya.
