Grenade attack on SLA road patrol

Two soldiers were killed when the Liberation Tigers lobbed a grenade on an SLA foot patrol at Karanthan on the Urumpirai-Neervely road in Jaffna yesterday around 3 p.m.

The area was cordorned off by the army and searched soon after the grenade attack. Sources in the area said that the LTTE had got away before the SLA rounded up the area.

Police sources in Jaffna said that they were not aware whether anyone was arrested in Karanthan during the search.



A Police official in Jaffna town expressed concern that the Liberation Tigers have stepped up small scale attacks on the security forces in the peninsula.
