CID arrests Amila Thera

Venerable Dambara Amila Thera, the President of Patriotic National Front (PNF) was taken in for questioning by a team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sri Lanka Police, according to a complaint by PNC Secretary and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) parliamentarian Vijitha Herath to the police.

The CID police took him into custody while the Thera was in Talangama. PNF is a wing of the JVP that recently extended its support to the common presidential candidate General (retired) Sarath Fonseka. Police spokesman and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) I.M.Karunaratne told media that Venerable Thera is being interrogated by the CID over several complaints against him that he had collected money for sending unemployed youth in Kuliyapitya and Horana abroad.
