Four civilians including two provincial media personnel were injured Wednesday morning in a clash that broke out between supporters of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and the supporters of General Sarath Fonseka, common opposition presidential candidate in the Polonnaruwa town bus stand, police media spokesman said.

Polonnaruwa town was in tension since Tuesday night as ruling party supporters burnt down several election offices of opposition common candidate General Sarath Fonseka.

Escalating tension led to the two groups attacking each other in the bus stand.

Police rushed to site and brought the situation under control, police media spokesman said.
