Jaffna blast kills Lt. Colonel

Three Sri Lanka Army personnel, including a Lt. Colonel and a Major, were killed and four others were wounded in a claymore mine explosion near Naakar Kovil in the Vadamaradchi East Jaffna, around 2.30 p.m. yesterday.

The vehicle in which the SLA personnel were travelling was destroyed in the blast.

The army cordoned off the area following the attack and launched a search operation.

Many civilians were assaulted by army personnel sources said.

Meanwhile the Sri Lankan police said that a bomb was found at a check post at Kallady on the Batticaloa-Kalmunai road, at around 8 a.m today.

The bomb which was fixed to a gas cylinder at the police post would have caused extensive damage if it had exploded the police said.
