Chennai High Court calls for clarification on deportation of Pirapaharan’s mother

Chennai High Court judge who took up Wednesday for inquiry the petition filed by Mr. M. Karupan, a senior lawyer and human rights activist, citing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M. Karunanidhi and the Indian Central Government as respondents for having sent back Mrs. Velupillai Parvathi, mother of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) leader Mr. V Pirapaharan, to Malaysia without allowing her to land in Chennai airport, ordered Mr. Karunanidhi and the Indian Central Government to submit a report on why Mrs. Velupillai Parvathi was sent back, before next Monday, legal sources in Chennai said.

Mr. Karupan further requested the court to get Mrs. Velupillai Parvathi back to Chennai in a special plane and offer her the medical treatment she needs in order to wipe off the international disrespect that has come to rest on the entire Tamils of Tamil Nadu for refusing an elderly lady medical treatment in Tamil Nadu, the sources added.

The court is to take the case for inquiry on Monday.

Speaking to the media after the inquiry, Mr. Karupan said that sending Mrs. Velupillai Parvathi has very much hurt the sentiments of the entire Tamils in Tamil Nadu and the act of Karunahidhi as an individual has brought disgrace the entire Tamils internationally.

The reason for filing the petition is to make public the reason for sending her back to Malaysia without being allowed to land in Chennai airport and to request the court to order Mr. Karunanidhi to make arrangement to bring her back to Chennai on a special place and offer the medical treatment she needs, he added.
