Jaffna undergrads held as prisoners, charges IUSF

The Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) Wednesday charged that more than 150 students of the Jaffna University are still being held in rehabilitation centers and are being prevented from attending classes in the University campus. IUSF made the statement on return to Colombo after a fact-finding visit to universities in Jaffna and Batticaloa, and prepared a report of the plight of students.

The President of the IUSF, Udul Premaratne, further told media in Colombo that another 143 Jaffna undergrads have been taken way for questioning from time to time remain missing and their whereabouts are not known.

43 female undergraduates were sent back from the rehabilitation camps with the instruction that they should stay in the campus and not to leave without permission.

IUSF appeals to the government to restore freedom to Jaffna undergrads under interrogation without holding them as prisoners.
