SL Parliament meets, Fonseka complains of breach of his privileges

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 04 May 2010, 09:44 GMT]
Sri Lanka Parliament Tuesday morning commenced its four day sittings with Speaker Chamal Rajapakse in the chair. The Prime Minister was scheduled to table a motion on behalf of the government with certain relaxation in elements of the Emergency Regulations (ER) seeking the extension of the State of Emergency now in force since August 12, 2005 for another month.

Soon after the parliament began its session, Sarath Fonseka, leader of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) parliamentary group lodged a complaint with the Speaker that his parliamentary privileges have been violated as he has been summoned by the second court martial against him Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. despite parliament session.

General Fonseka has been charged before the second court martial for his alleged involvement in tender irregularities in some procurements of arms for the Sri Lanka Army.
