US ambassador to SL to visit Jaffna

Ms. Patricia A. Butenis, Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives, is scheduled to visit Jaffna peninsula Wednesday during which she will pay a visit to the ‘Periya Pa’l’livaasal’ (Big Mosque) of the Muslim community in Jaffna which had been opened after a period of nearly 20 years, sources in Jaffna said. The ambassador will take part in various discussions and the inspection of development projects in progress in the peninsula, US embassy circles said.

Ms. Patricia A. Butenis is expected to visit Jaffna University and Jaffna Bishop’s House where she will hold talks with key persons of the Committee for Peace and Goodwill (CPG).

She will also hold discussions with the Government Agent of Jaffna.

The visit to the mosque is counted as an important one by the people of the peninsula.
