Two transformers were blasted today in the heart of Trincomalee town this morning around six. One transformer was at Madathady junction, entrance to the town and the other in front of the controversial new market constructed by the Trincomalee Urban Council.
The Ceylon Electricity Board officials have estimated the damages to the blasted transormers to the tune of one million rupees.
The security authorities suspect sabotage in today's blasts, and are conducting investigations.
The opening of this new market constructed at a cost of six million rupees has been delayed for the last two years due to the intervention of the Sri Lanka Army.
