It is suspected the student took his life having failed in the recent examination. He is the third medical student of Jaffna University to commit suicide for failure in the examination this year.

The medical student dead was identified as Vaitheeswaran Sarangan, 30, serving internship in Jaffna Teaching Hospital. He and his mother, uprooted from Sri Lanka Army High Security Zone in Maaviddapuram, were living in Kantharoadai.

Sarangan's mother had left to London to participate in the convocation ceremony of her other son and he was staying in the house alone.
