SLA deserters rob jewelry posing as Interpol officers

Kosawathe police in Chilaw district arrested Wednesday six deserters of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) including an officer who had robbed one million rupees worth jewelry from a woman who had recently returned from Middle East, posing as Interpol officers, the police said.
The gang of SLA deserters had gone to the house of the woman and threatened her saying she has stolen jewelry from Middle East in her possession.
The imposters got away with Rs. 1,02,000 worth jewelry which the woman had.
SLA deserters have been involved in a series of robberies in Colombo and its suburbs as well as in other cities, the police said.
