SL National Defence Day to be held in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Sunday, 12 September 2010, 06:17 GMT]
Sri Lanka Minister of Disaster Management A. H. M. Fowzie will hold a meeting in Jaffna Sunday with government departmental heads and representatives of public organization to discuss arrangements of the Sri Lanka National Defence Day that is to be celebrated in Jaffna 26 December, Jaffna Secretariat sources said. This is another event like Sri Lanka Cabinet meeting held in Ki’linochchi and the Government Agents conference staged in Jaffna by the Sri Lanka government to show the world as if it is genuinely interested in the 'development' of the North, civil society organizations in Jaffna said.

Minister Fowzi will first open the Jaffna District Disaster Management office Sunday and later participate in the opening ceremony of Mihin Lanka Airlines office in Jaffna accompanied by Sri Lanka minister Douglas Devananda.

Namal Rajapaksa, son of Sri Lanka president and parliamentarian, was earlier expected to open the office of Mihin Lanka Airlines in Jaffna Sunday.

Meanwhile, opposition parties allege that Mihin Lanka Airlines is a Rajapaksa family concern and that it has not paid millions of rupees due to Sri Lanka government for the fuel it had used in the past.
