A group of men led by Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan assaulted two members of Batticaloa Municipal Council (BMC) Friday during a meeting held at the residence of Batticaloa Mayor Ms. Sivakeertha Prapakaran, sources in Batticaloa said. K. Arumailingam representing Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) and R. Pirpakaran, the General Secretary of EROS, were the members assaulted with batons. They are admitted to Batticaloa hospital with serious injuries.

The men led by the Chief Minister had assaulted the two members when heated arguments arose between him and the two members during the meeting, the sources said.

Both parties have registered complaints with Batticalao police who are investigating into the incident.

Meanwhile, BMC member K. Arumailingam and S. Sasikumar had assaulted an employee of BMC on 7th August 2010 in the premises of Batticaloa Maamaangkeasvarar temple who was admitted in the hospital.
