Sri Lanka police Intelligence officers arrested Sunday an important operative of Tamil Makkal Viduthali Pulikal (TMVP) a political-cum-paramilitary party led by Eastern Province Chief Minister, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan, in Ka’ruvaakkea’ni in Batticaloa. He was arrested for involvement in the theft of a van on information given by Vadivel Ravichandran, the Vice Chairman of the Vaazhaichcheanai Pradeshiya Saba in Batticaloa who was arrested and detained in October by police in Nuwara Eliya district, sources in Batticaloa said.

The arrested TMVP operative is Ajith. He had been involved in abductions, killings, robberies in 2006 and 2007 when Karuna and Pillayan were running the TMVP outfit jointly.

During the above period a gang of TMVP operatives including Ravichandran, Ajith and Jenthan had stolen a van belonging to a Muslim person and had been using it for their activities.

Later the owner of the van had identified the vehicle when the TMVP gang tried to sell it to another Muslim person having made some alteration in the vehicle.

Sri Lanka police had arrested Ravichandran on information given by the owner of the van.

Ajith is alleged of various crimes while Jenthan, though a person without any income is the owner of an apartment flats, the sources added.
