Two persons per week contract AIDS in Sri Lanka

At least two persons are diagnosed with HIV per week in the island, media reports in Colombo said citing Dr. Ms. Sujatha Samarakoon, the AIDS Control Programme Deputy Director on the occasion of World AIDS Day.

At an event held in Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, she said 216 persons had died due to the disease and of the 1,285 confirmed positive, 767 were males since AIDS was discovered in the island in 1987.
