Two suspects escape from prison custody in Vavuniyaa

Mannaar Police have launched a search operation to arrest two suspects who had escaped from their custody while they were being taken along with four others to Vavuniyaa prison for further remand in connection with robbery and possession of dangerous weapons Mannaar Police arrested six persons on 27.06.2010 on charges with possession dangerous weapons and robbery.

The suspects were remanded in Vavuniyaa prison on the orders of the Mannaar Magistrate.

The police filed three separate charges against these suspects. They were again produced in Mannaar court Tuesday. The court ordered further remand for the suspects till December 28.

Thereafter prison authorities transported the suspects to Vavuniyaa. Two of the six suspects, Rajendran Sasikumar and Alagiah Gowribalan, escaped from the custody of the prison officials when they were about to be taken into the Vavuniyaa prison from the vehicle.

A search operation has been launched by the police to arrest the escaped suspects.
