PS Deputy Chairman killed

The Deputy Chairman of the Nallur Pradheshiya Sabha (PS), Thiyakarajah Rajkumar,32, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Kantharmadam, about 2 km. north of Jaffna town, around 10.00 a.m. this morning.

Thiyakarajah Rajkumar, representing the EPDP, was killed while he was cycling to the Nallur PS office with one of his relatives. His relative was also killed.

The bodies have been brought to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

The Police in the northern town has blamed the Liberation Tigers for the killings.

Meanwhile three Sri Lanka Army soldiers were killed and two others were wounded in a claymore mine attack by the Liberation Tigers on the Eluthumadduvaal-Naakar Kovil road, about 8 km. from Chavakachcheri, yesterday around 11 a.m.

The wounded soldiers were airlifted to the Palaly SLA base, said sources.
