Two civilians shot dead[TamilNet, Thursday, 10 June 1999, 03:15 GMT]Two Sinhalese villagers who had gone hunting in the Suriyawewa jungles which lie along the border between the Batticaloa and Polannaruwa districts, were shot dead by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers yesterday morning. The SLA handed over their bodies to the Welikande hospital. The Welikande police said they were shot dead as they had entered the no-go zone demarcated by the SLA. The SLA has banned the use of these jungle areas to prevent the LTTE from infiltrating the Polannaaruwa, region said sources.
