Mr. Bardhan asked why the Government of India was silent on the “massacre” of thousands of Tamils by the Sri Lankan army during the civil war, whilst the Foreign Ministers of the United Kingdom and France, and the United Nations Secretary-General had spoken out.

The CPI would take up the issue in the coming monsoon session of Parliament and put pressure on the Centre, he said.

Mr. Raja accused the Indian government of adopting “double standards” and following a “flawed foreign policy” on Sri Lanka.

He demanded the Sri Lankan government to provide proper devolution of powers to the Tamils and take steps for their rehabilitation and early return to their homes, as well as a fair trial relating to all the war crimes.
