The General Secretary of the SLRC in Colombo announced news of the resignations that was later relayed by the state radio station in its nightly bulletin.

The Chairman of the Vavuniya branch, C.Marcandeyar, said that the General Secretary had summoned the Vavuniya committee to Colombo and told them that he was going to suspend the committee following the arrest of three society members by the police.
