Diaspora Tamil on visit to reclaim land killed in Vanni

A 53-year-old Eezham Tamil citizen of Canada was found brutally slain with a slit throat Friday morning at Kaagnchipuram lane, 2 km west of Paranthan junction in the Ki’linochchi district of Vanni. The killing seems to have taken place between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. Thursday, according to the relatives of the victim. The victim, Anthonypillai Mahendrarasa, the son of a successful former trader, had come to Paranthan to claim the ownership of the lands, especially the lands he owns in Kumaarapuram in Ki'linochchi district, which have been occupied by the SL military, informed sources said. He also owns properties of business potential.

There was no cloth on the body, which was recovered with cut injuries.

It is not known whether he was slain after he had had gone to the remote area or whether he was abducted before the killing. The area, which lies between strategic Poonakari and Paranthan, is a heavily militarised area of Ki'linochchi district.

Even the people who have recently resettled there are subjected to continuous harassment, news sources in Paranthan told TamilNet Saturday.

A number of killings, deploying knifes, are reported in the recent days in Vadamaraadchi in Jaffna and in Trincomalee.

Like the Grease Devil terror enacted on Tamil women sometimes back and the Whit Van terror amply exposed, knifing diaspora returnees to death is strongly suspected as the current pattern of activity by the occupying Sinhala military and its intelligence units.

The modus operandi of the occupying military is to first place a signboard on a land owned by Tamils who have gone abroad that the land has been ‘reserved for military use’

Often, the land owners from the diaspora get urged by their family members and relatives to come in person and claim their lands currently occupied or being occupied by the SL military and its operatives in Vanni as the SL military officers ‘advice’ the owners to be present to resolve the ‘dispute’.

Once the landowners have arrived, the SL military officers talk to them prodding them to pay large sums of money to release their lands or offer lands, they have got by intimidating others at different locations.

Some times, occupying military officials say that their high command was not going to allow them to relocate their military bases from the landowners properties and offer lands which they have acquired by intimidating others at different localities.

There are also intermediaries operated by the SLA. The intermediaries often suggest that they can relocate the military from their property by giving a large sum of money to the military commander.

Often bank payment slips, only with a number and without any name, are given to the victims to pay the specified money at the bank. Once the receipt is produced the occupying military would remove the signboard and would release the land.

India and the governments in the West neither accept that there was a genocidal war nor accept that there is an on-going structural genocide.

This is the most fundamental abetment and encouragement they give to the crimes of the genocidal Sinhala state, while accusing the diaspora for not ‘cooperating’ with their ‘development’ agenda.

No one of these Establishments actually wants the diaspora to help its kith and kin or engage in development on its own. The Establishments are only keen in preserving the Colombo-centric Sinhala state at any cost and are investing more and more on it.

None of them opened their mouths when the Sinhala state was bringing in land regulations with an aim of grabbing the lands of the Tamils who left the island as victims of the decades long war.

The visiting ‘parliamentary’ delegation from India that was soft-pedaling the militarization issue, arguing for a phase by phase approach, never uttered a word on colonization, Sinhalicisation and Buddhicisation that take place in the Tamil country.

How do all of them in the West and in India expect the diaspora to align behind them or their proxy politicians, and support their ‘development sans national freedom’ agenda, ask political and social activists in the diaspora.
