Ambush kills eight

Eight Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were killed and five seriously wounded when the Liberation Tigers ambushed their patrol at Kokkuththoduvaai in the north-east of the island, this morning around 6.30 a.m., said sources.
Seven soldiers were killed on the spot while one of the wounded died on admission to Anuradhapura hospital.
SLA sources said the Police and the SLA have jointly repulsed the attack, inflicting casualties on the LTTE ambush party.
Meanwhile the Liberation Tigers also shelled Kokkuththoduvaai SLA detachment around 9.30 p.m. yesterday, destroying 4 bunkers sources said
The Tigers fired nineteen 120 mm. and 122 mm. artillery shells at the SLA detachment; but there were no casualties among the troops, the sources added.
