Eight boats carrying admission cards, stationery and a batch of question papers set off from Pallimunai ferry around 10.30 am today, officials in Mannar said.

Two officials of the UNHCR and two officials of the ICRC went in the boats along with the officials of the Department of Education, said sources.

The boats were flying ICRC flags.

The boats were also carrying 4 barrels of diesel for the purpose of the UNHCR and 3 barrels of kerosene for the use of the education officials, sources added.

It is expected that the boats will anchor at Padahuththurai, off Iluppaikadavai fishing village after about 4 hours.

Officials said that the papers are to be taken to Mallavi Maha Vidyalayam (school) and then distributed to the regional Directors of Education in the Vanni to whom instruction have already been given to be present at Mallavi this afternoon.
