Eight Tamils arrested during tight security

Eight Tamils from the upcountry were arrested yesterday by the Sri Lankan police at the Yattinuwara Pattumawatta lane at Alimudakku, Kandy.

They were arrested for not possessing their national identity cards.

Meanwhile a new branch of the Ceylon Bank was opened in Kandy today. The Bank of Ceylon is celebrating its 60th anniversary today. Sources said that it was due to these celebrations and opening ceremony that security was tightened in the area.
