Soldier wounded in LTTE Ambush

A soldier was wounded at Iranai Iluppaikulam, 18 km. north west of Vavuniya, at about 11.00 a.m. this morning when the LTTE ambushed a SLA water tank, sources said.

He was immediately taken to the Anuradhapura hospital, they added.

In the eastern Batticaloa district a policeman was wounded when the Liberation Tigers fired at a group of policemen who were on their way to sentry duty at the Paddirippu bridge at about 7.00 a.m. this morning.

Meanwhile the Police and the SLA conducted a search operation in the Hospital junction and Mannar Road areas Vavuniya town today, sources said.

Six people were arrested during a cordon and search operation in the Thonikkal area this morning, sources said. They were released after inquiries, they added.
