Youth commits suicide

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) sources in the north said that an unidentified youth, suspected to be a member of the Liberation Tigers, committed suicide at the Arasady army checkpoint near Jaffna town around 2.30 p.m. today.
The youth, according to the army sources, was walking by the checkpoint among people thronging to the Nallur Kandasamy temple festival when he was spotted and called up by soldiers at the checkpoint.
The youth had bitten a cyanide capsule as soon as he was summoned they added.
Army sources said eighteen thousand rupees were found in his person and that the youth had no national identity card or other documents on him.
The body was taken to the Jaffna hospital by the Police.
