Fundamental Rights case cleared

The Supreme Court which heard the Fundamental Rights Application filed by a Vavuniya trader Nagesu Ratnaraja challenging his detention , had granted leave to proceed.
The application was filed by Attorney-at-Law N . Sri Kantha on behalf of the petitioner.
The petitioner stated that he was arrested by the police on August 26 .1999, at his Vavuniya home.
He was interrogated by the Sri Lankan security forces about the purchase from him of a cellular telephone by a person called Sabaratnam Vasikaran.
He had explained that he bought the phone from one Ahamed and after a month sold it to Vasikaran.
The Bench comprised Justice Dheerartne, Justice Wadugodapitiya and Justice Shiranie Bandaranayaka.
