Casualties mount in Vanni fighting

Twenty-seven Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were killed and over 75 wounded in yesterday's fighting with the Liberation Tigers in Olumadu-Ampakamam region , said security sources.
Details of LTTE casualties were not known.
The Voice of Tigers (VoT) said in its morning news bulletin that the Liberation Tigers attacked SLA positions in Mankulam, Ampakamam, Olumadu and Oddusuddan areas yesterday and inflicted heavy casualties to the troops.
The radio said further details are awaited.
Residents in Vavuniya said they were able to hear sounds of explosions and artillery fire through out the night.
