SLA launches fresh offensive

Sri Lanka Army has launched a fresh operation, code named "Operation Water Shed-2", in the Oddusuddan-Olumadu area, east of Mankulam since this morning said defence sources.

The Tigers are reported to have opened up with heavy artillery shelling on the SLA troops sources said.

Initial reports said three SLA troops have been killed and 11 wounded in the fighting.

Wounded soldiers were airlifted to Anuradhapura hospital for treatment.

Further details are not known.

Phase I of Operation Water Shed was launched on October 12 and was called off when the LTTE fought back fiercely to repulse the advance of the troops.
