Jaffna University students boycott

[TamilNet, Friday, 29 October 1999, 11:46 GMT]
Students at Jaffna University boycotted their lectures today to protest against the detention of a fellow student by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), said sources.

The student, Selvanayagam Susanthan, was arrested at his house by the SLA soldiers said university sources.

The SLA claimed that they recovered three grenades from his house. However, his parents say their detained son has no connection with the Liberation Tigers, the sources added. The Army gave earlier the name of the student as Selvanayagam Selventhiran.

Student sources said they would continue to boycott the lectures. The students of the Arts Faculty have been boycotting their lectures since his arrest.
