Fighting continues in Jaffna

The Liberation Tigers advanced further towards Iyakkachchi last night and have taken Mandalaai and Thiriyai sources in Vadamaradchi east said today. The Sri Lankan army was stationed in the environs of the Thiriyayi Amman temple. The LTTE units had advanced from Pullaveli the sources added.

Mandalaai- Thiriyayi Amman kovil area is about four kilometers east of Iyakkachchi.

The Tigers also captured the Virumar Koilady area on the northern border of the Maruthankerni village on Jaffna's southeastern coast last night according to the sources.

They said that the LTTE is now consolidating its positions there. This area is two kilometers from Thalaiyadi where the SLA is currently defending its positions against an anticipated thrust by the LTTE.
