EPRLF backs Kumaratunge

The Eelam Peoples Revolutionary Liberation Front led by Annamalai Varatharajaperumal, former chief minister of the North East Provincial Council has decided to extend its support to the ruling Peoples Alliance in the forthcoming presidential election, scheduled to be held on December 21.

The EPRLF has issued a statement today appealing to the Tamil people to vote for Chandrika Kumaratunge, Presidential candidate of the PA.

Five members of the central committee including Mr.Varatharajaperumal have signed the statement.

The EPRLF, whose military wing, the Razeek group, operates with the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in the eastern province, joins two other Tamil paramilitary groups, the Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) and the People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) in supporting President Kumaratunge.
